Rollins update: Furcal signs 2-year deal

Shortstop Rafael Furcal has agreed to a two-year deal with the St. Louis Cardinals.

The Cardinals were a possible suitor for Jimmy Rollins , especially after the departure of Albert Pujols, but they were not willing to offer Rollins the five-year contract that he has been demanding, according to MLBTradeRumors.com.

The signing of the 34-year old Furcal narrows down the market for Rollins even more. Rollins' situation is getting very close to, not if he will resign with the Phillies, but when.

The Milwaukee Brewers were also interested in Rollins, but backed off their pursuit midway through the week when it was reported that Rollins was likely to rejoin the Phillies. They signed Alex Gonzalez to a one-year deal instead.
