Madson agrees to 4-year deal, pending approval

Sports Illustrated's Jon Heyman posted on his Twitter account that closer Ryan Madson agreed to a four year, $44 million deal with the Phillies, and that the contract is awaiting CEO Daivd Montgomery's approval.

Heyman posted the tweet early Wedenesday morning, which means the deal could have possibly been agreed to late Monday night or early Tuesday morning.


Heyman posted another tweet around the same time, saying that general manger Ruben Amaro Jr. is still awaiting approval.

"after amaro agreed to $44M, 4-yr madson deal, amaro said he'd have to get montgomery's OK, source said. still waiting."

Jim Duquette of MLB.com, reported that the deal Madson agreed to could have a fifth year option.

All the terms of the contract should be revealed as soon as Madson's deal is approved.
