According to Jim Salisbury of CSN Philly.com, first baseman Ryan Howard will not start in tonight's game against the Cardinals. John Mayberry Jr. will take over at first.Howard has been out of the lineup four times in the past nine days, dealing with bursitis in his heel/Achillies.
Due to the 12 game lead over the Braves, Charlie Manuel will be giving Howard some rest over the last couple weeks of the season, but Howard is willing to play if he has to.
On top of the rest, there is also the possibility that Howard could receive a cortisone shot to help relieve him of the pain before the start of the postseason.
