Phillies lose fifth straight

September 22, 2011

The Phillies slump continued last night, losing to the Nationals 7-5.  They're still winless after clinching their fifth consecutive NL East title.

The Phillies five game losing streak is the worst one this season, and the first time they lost five straight since May 22-27 of last year.

Charlie Manuel isn't concerned just yet, and neither is shortstop Jimmy Rollins.

The Phillies will have a series against the Mets then the Braves, after this series with the Nationals is over.

Rollins expects the team to snap out of their funk over the next two series. Especially when Atlanta's playoff hopes hang on beating the Phillies.

"That's when you want to turn it on," said Rollins. " It's another team potentially in the playoffs needing to win and they will give it their all. It kind of brings out the best in you."
