Starters rest, Phils lose to Nats in 10 4-3

September 20, 2011

The Phillies lost game one of today's day-night doubleheader to the Washington Nationals 4-3 in extras (10).

Charlie Manuel kept most of his regulars out of the lineup for today's game. Shane Victorino an Hunter Pence were the only everyday starters in the lineup. The rest of the lineup consisted of Wilson Valdez, John Mayberry Jr.,  Michael Martinez, Brian Schnieder, Pete Orr, John Bowker, and Eric Katz.

Both Pence and Victorino left the game after the sixth. Pence created some cause for concern when he walked with a noticable limp after reaching first on a base hit.

According to Manuel, Pence told him he was fine. I will keep you updated as soon as more details emerge.

The second game of the doubleheader between the Phillies and Nationals starts at 7:05. Washington will send Ross Detwiler (2-5) to the mound against Philadelphia's Cliff Lee (16-7).
