Lee almost gets the shutout, Phils win in 10th

September 16, 2011

Cliff Lee was strong for eight and two thirds innings and it seemed like he would easily earn his seventh shutout of the year. With two outs in the ninth, Lee had an 0-2 count on Marlins first baseman Jose Lopez.

On the next pitch, Lopez hit a solo homer to left to tie the game at one. So the Phillies were heading to extras.

In the bottom of the 10th, after Michael Martinez was walked, Ryan Howard stepped up and hit a walk-off double in to center for the win.

The Phillies sweep the Marlins in the doubleheader, and the magic number to clinch the NL East is now down to 2.
