Kendrick solid, Phils first game 3-1

September 15, 2011

The Phillies magic number to clinch their fifth consecutive NL East title is now down to three, thanks to a 3-1 win against the Marlins in game one of today's doubleheader.

Kyle Kendrick made his first start in 21 games and pitched five solid innings, only allowing two hits, the second being a solo homer by Logan Morrison (20).

Morrison's home-run was the only run the Marlins scored in the game.

Chase Utley, who missed the last seven games due to a concussion, pinched hit in the seventh. With runners on first and second, Utley hit a single to load the bases.

Placido Polanco was walked in the next at-bat to score the Phillies third and final run of the game.
