Vote for Ryan Howard to receive the Roberto Clemente Award

September 16, 2011

First baseman Ryan Howard is a nominee for the 2011 Roberto Clemente Award, which recognizes players for their charity work off the field.

Phillies fans, make sure you cast your vote. I will be leaving the link to the ballot in this article and on the blog itself.

"Ryan Howard established The Ryan Howard Family Foundation in 2009 with the mission of improving the quality of life of others, in particular disadvantaged youth and families through the development and implementation of programs that advance education, nutrition, physical fitness and socioeconomic status. The Foundation donated $150,000 to a revitalization project supported by neighborhood leaders and the Fairmount Park Conservancy. The project included the restoration of a baseball field and provided equipment and uniforms to a Philadelphia neighborhood plagued by violence.

Ryan also works with the United Negro College Fund. In 2010, The Ryan Howard Foundation awarded $90,000 in scholarships to college-bound students in the Philadelphia and St. Louis metropolitan areas. In addition, Ryan also supports the Police Athletic League, ALS Association, the Philadelphia Futures, Centers for Abused Children, the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, the Cure for Asthma, Celebrity Servers, UNICEF, Make-A-Wish® Foundation, Phillies Wives Annual Pro-Pack Silent Auction, Pennsylvania SPCA, Arthritis Foundation of Eastern Philadelphia, and Camp Erin."
