Victorino gets reduced suspension

August 18th, 2011

Centerfielder Shane Victorino had his three game suspension reduced to two games. His suspension begins tonight in the third and final game of the series against Arizona.

Victorino was given the suspension on August 6th, after a bench-clearing brawl occured during the Phillies  9-2 victory over the San Francisco Giants the night before.

Giants relief pitcher Ramon Ramirez hit Victorino with a pitch, which made Victorino approach the mound, causing the benches to clear. Giants catcher Eli Whiteside attempted to tackle Phillies 3rd baseman Placido Polanco during the brawl.

Victorino received the only suspenion, while Polanco, Ramirez, and Whiteside were fined for their actions.
